Syro Malabar mothers’ association, previously known as ‘Mathrudeepthi’ was initiated in the Eparchy of Kanjirappally with the objective of giving formation to wedded women by conscientising them about their responsibilities as wife, mother and head of families, thereby bringing reformation in families, society and in the church. Its constitution was approved and published on 22nd April 1994, by H.E. Mar Mathew Vattakcuzhy.
This organization is under the Commission for Family, Laity and Life, of the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Bishops.
The heavenly patron of Mathruvedhi is the Bl. Virgin Mary and co-patrons are St. Monica and St. Gianna Beretta Molla. The word of God “To have life, life in plenty” (Jn 10:10) is the slogan of the association, and the motto is “Mother; the protector of life and the lamp of family”. The important objectives of Mathruvedhi are to create fraternity of Syro Malabar mothers at the in global level and to ensure the role of mothers, with the church, for establishing the kingdom of Jesus
The patron of this association is the Bishop of Kanjirappally and co-patrons are the vicar Generals. Every year a theme is selected and appropriate programmes are planned and executed. The priest, appointed by the Bishop, is the Director and the Patron appoints an animator for the eparchial Mathruvedhi. Other officials of the organization in eparchial, forane and parish levels are elected in every two years. At every level, a consultative body, an executive and core committee functions.
The office of the eparchial Mathruvedhi functions in the office of Family Apostolate which is in the Annex building of Pastoral centre, Kanjirappally.
